Regret immediately sets in for a Skyrim adventurer who, right after purchasing a horse, witnesses it tragically plummeting to its demise. While Skyrim boasts numerous locations where players can acquire a steed to expedite their travels, this particular player seems to have made an unfortunate choice.
The expansive world of Skyrim invites players to explore a multitude of captivating locations, each brimming with points of interest. This immersive realm truly unfolds as players make their escape from Helgen Keep, a pivotal moment often referred to as the game’s “step-out moment.” Once liberated, players have the freedom to traverse the entire map at their own discretion, foregoing the main campaign if they so choose. Venturing into uncharted territories frequently unveils side quests and lucrative rewards. To hasten their journey, players can either utilize carriages stationed outside cities or opt to purchase a horse for swifter travel.
However, in this instance, the player’s decision to invest in a horse quickly transforms into remorse as the equine companion meets an untimely demise, preventing them from experiencing much of the vast open world.
Ceannaliel, a Reddit user, recently posted a Skyrim clip featuring their character mounted on a newly acquired blonde horse near the Crabber’s Shanty. Despite having just purchased the horse five minutes prior, the video swiftly reveals an unexpected turn of events. As they guide the horse through a stream, it inexplicably launches skyward, carrying the Skyrim Dragonborn along for the surreal ride. Reaching a considerable height, both horse and rider plummet back to the ground, resulting in the unfortunate demise of the equine companion. Interestingly, the Dragonborn, despite falling through the horse initially, emerges unharmed upon hitting the ground. The lifeless horse then serenely drifts downstream as the clip comes to an end.

Ceannaliel has incurred a loss of 1,000 gold as horses like the one in question are priced at that amount. Unfortunately, the transaction did not yield significant benefits. Alternatively, in the Skyrim Dark Brotherhood questline, players have the option to obtain a free horse, which could be a more favorable choice for those facing unfortunate circumstances. However, it’s important to note that this option might still be susceptible to bugs. Players also have the potential to tame wild horses or pilfer those owned by NPCs, although the latter often results in acquiring a bounty, which comes with its own set of drawbacks. If players possess a recent save, they might have the opportunity to revert the game to a point just before purchasing the horse. Unfortunately, the video clip concludes before any such changes are implemented.
The flying horse phenomenon observed by Ceannaliel is a known bug in the game, as reported by other players who have encountered similar experiences in Skyrim. The video also exhibits noticeable latency, suggesting that Ceannaliel’s gameplay may have been adversely affected. It remains unclear whether the latency directly caused the bug or if it played a contributing role in its occurrence.
