Enthusiasts who had the opportunity to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League before its upcoming launch next month have uncovered a fascinating aspect of the game’s portrayal of Batman: he will dynamically accompany players throughout the open world of Metropolis in true Dark Knight fashion. In November, Rocksteady conducted a closed alpha test for Suicide Squad, providing a select group of players with the chance to experience the game while the developers conducted online server testing. Additionally, Rocksteady and WB Games organized a special preview event for Suicide Squad, allowing members of the press and social media influencers to delve into the initial hours of gameplay.

True to its title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League places players in a confrontation against the mind-controlled members of the Justice League, including the iconic Batman. Initially shrouded in mystery due to the conclusion of Batman: Arkham Knight, Bruce Wayne’s involvement in Suicide Squad was eventually clarified, revealing that Batman is one of the heroes manipulated by Brainiac—with the late Kevin Conroy reprising his legendary role one final time following his passing in 2022. This premise adds an intriguing layer, placing players in the role of the Caped Crusader’s target after having embodied the Dark Knight during the Batman: Arkham games.

The pre-launch trailers for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have already teased a boss battle against Batman, and it appears that The Dark Knight’s role will be more significant than initially anticipated. During a recent preview event, content creator Laajune had the chance to play Suicide Squad and observed Batman’s silhouette atop a Wonder Woman statue in the distance while exploring Metropolis. Moments later, Laajune spotted Batman on a nearby rooftop and even witnessed the Caped Crusader taking off aboard his Batwing. This suggests that Batman will play a more dynamic and involved role in the game’s narrative and world exploration than previously revealed.

For any enthusiast of Rocksteady’s Arkhamverse games, it’s well-known that one of Batman’s defining traits is his proclivity for observing adversaries from a distance before engaging them in combat. This characteristic seems to be faithfully represented in Suicide Squad. Having previously experienced the opportunity to play as The Dark Knight across all four main Batman: Arkham titles, wherein stealthily stalking criminals from the shadows was a fundamental gameplay element, fans are now in for a twist. Judging from Laajune’s shared gameplay footage, Suicide Squad will invert this dynamic, placing the player in the challenging position of becoming Batman’s quarry in the expansive hunting grounds of Metropolis.

Certain pre-release trailers for Suicide Squad have provided a glimpse of the tactics Batman will employ in the impending boss battle, showcasing elements like Scarecrow’s Fear Toxin and what appears to be a firearm. With Rocksteady easing some of the restrictions imposed by the NDA that fans had to adhere to during the closed alpha, it’s probable that additional information about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will emerge in the lead-up to February 2. This may include more insights into the transformed Batman, now a villain, as he surveils Task Force X and strategizes for his impending assault.
