Eight EA Games to Close Their Doors in 2024

0

As of the current moment, EA has revealed plans to discontinue online services for eight games throughout 2024. As the gaming community transitions to new titles and technological advancements, EA is taking the step to close down online servers and associated features for select games. Regrettably, several EA games, including some beloved classic titles, met the same fate in 2023.

Specifically, on December 8, 2023, EA ceased online services for seven games. This list includes Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Crysis 3, Dante’s Inferno, Dead Space 2, and Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. Consequently, certain game modes linked to these titles, such as Dead Space 2’s multiplayer, are now permanently unavailable, much to the disappointment of fans.

While the closure of EA‘s online servers for its games is always disheartening, the company typically provides fans with substantial advanced notice before discontinuing services. In this instance, fans are already aware of eight EA games slated for shutdown in 2024, with seven of them facing closure on March 21. On this date, the online servers for F1 2011, F1 2012, F1 2013, F1 2014, F1 Race Stars, Micromachines World Series, and Rocket Arena will all be deactivated. Additionally, Madden NFL 20 is confirmed to lose its online services on April 15.

EA Games Shutting Down 2024

  1. F1 2011 – March 21
  2. F1 2012 – March 21
  3. F1 2013 – March 21
  4. F1 2014 – March 21
  5. F1 Race Stars – March 21
  6. Micromachines World Series – March 21
  7. Rocket Arena – March 21
  8. Madden NFL 20 – April 15

The closure of the F1 games’ online services on March 21, 2024, is likely attributed to expiring licenses. Notably, all these F1 games have already been delisted, making them inaccessible to new players unless they manage to find physical copies. As for Rocket Arena, its impending shutdown has been anticipated for a while, as the live service game ceased receiving significant updates shortly after its launch. Moreover, its fate was sealed by adopting a premium release model despite having a free-to-play structure, and it has also been delisted.

Sports games like Madden NFL 20 routinely face shutdowns, a scenario that fans have become accustomed to. It’s worth mentioning that EA may potentially announce additional game closures in the future. However, as of now, fans only need to concern themselves with the dates of March 21 and April 15.
