When Ghost of Tsushima initially launched in July 2020, it faced a challenging release window, coming just a month after The Last of Us Part 2. The intense discussions surrounding the latter game unfortunately overshadowed Ghost of Tsushima for many PlayStation fans. However, akin to the resilience of its in-game protagonist, the brilliance of Ghost of Tsushima soon garnered recognition, evolving into a fan-favorite for 2020.
In the subsequent year, Ghost of Tsushima received significant expansions, including a free multiplayer mode called Ghost of Tsushima Legends and a narrative DLC expansion transporting players to the unexplored Iki Island. The journey culminated in a Director’s Cut, bundling all content and bringing the experience to the PlayStation 5. Following these developments, Sucker Punch maintained a low profile. While this silence could have marked the conclusion for Ghost of Tsushima, indications suggest that it may only be the inception of what could become a promising new first-party franchise for PlayStation.
Ghost of Tsushima 2 Could Be Announced in 2024
Sony’s current first-party lineup for 2024 may not appear particularly robust, but there’s hope that surprises are still in store. Although a major AAA release like Ghost of Tsushima 2 is unlikely to hit the shelves without ample anticipation, making a launch before the year’s end improbable, there remains the possibility of an official announcement for the sequel by the close of 2024.
As of now, there is no official revelation regarding a Ghost of Tsushima sequel, and there’s minimal concrete evidence suggesting active development. The closest hint fans have is a job listing from June 2022, where Sucker Punch was hiring for a new stealth open-world title. Simultaneously, Sucker Punch clarified that it wasn’t engaged in the creation of a new Sly Cooper or Infamous game.
While these breadcrumbs may not provide much substance, the anticipation for a Ghost of Tsushima sequel seems inevitable, given the commercial and critical success of the first installment. If Ghost of Tsushima 2 is currently in progress, there’s a chance it could be unveiled in 2024, perhaps during a Summer PlayStation Showcase or towards the year’s end, potentially at The Game Awards.
The Ghost of Tsushima Live-Action Movie Could Get Its First Trailer in 2024
In March 2021, PlayStation Productions and 87Eleven, in collaboration with Chad Stahelski’s film company, announced the development of a Ghost of Tsushima live-action movie. Chad Stahelski, renowned for directing the remarkable John Wick movie franchise, is set to helm this adaptation. In November 2023, Stahelski confirmed the completion of the movie’s script, signaling the imminent commencement of full-scale production.
Although movie timelines can be subject to change, there’s a possibility that fans might catch a glimpse of a Ghost of Tsushima movie teaser by the close of 2024. Given that the project hasn’t entered full production yet, the teaser is likely to be brief, possibly showcasing a quick shot of Jin Sakai’s silhouette against a visually striking backdrop. It might take some time before fans get a more substantial preview of the Ghost of Tsushima live-action movie.
