Naughty Dog has officially announced that The Last of Us Part II Remastered will include series composer Gustavo Santaolalla as a playable character in the Guitar Free Play mode. This enhanced version of The Last of Us 2 is set to launch exclusively for PlayStation on Friday, January 19, introducing not only improved graphics but also new game modes for players to explore.

Among the notable additions is the roguelike No Return mode, a headline feature in The Last of Us 2 Remastered. This mode showcases various playable characters from The Last of Us series, including the beloved Joel Miller, suggesting Naughty Dog is emphasizing No Return mode as a key attraction for the remastered edition. Alongside this, fans can also delve into other modes, including the Guitar Free Play mode.

Naughty Dog has provided additional details about The Last of Us Part II Remastered’s Guitar Free Play mode. According to a recent tweet from the studio, players can use a banjo in this mode, and they also have the unique choice of playing as series composer Gustavo Santaolalla instead of Ellie. This presents an intriguing option for dedicated fans of the franchise, although the extent to which players will engage with the Guitar Free Play mode remains to be seen.

It’s reasonable to assume that the majority of Last of Us 2 Remastered players will be opting for the upgrade to experience the game’s story, Lost Levels, or the previously mentioned No Return mode. Features like Guitar Free Play can be seen as an added bonus rather than the primary focus. Nevertheless, those eager to explore the new content introduced in The Last of Us Part II Remastered should be aware that they can upgrade from the PS4 version of the game for just $10.
