Konami has unveiled two new collections featuring classic games, introducing Felix the Cat and Rocket Knight Adventures to contemporary platforms. The company has actively engaged in preserving and reintroducing its vintage games to a broader audience in recent years, as exemplified by the re-releases of Castlevania and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collections. These initiatives bring retro games from older platforms to current systems. Konami has once again partnered with Limited Run Games to port some of its cherished classics to modern platforms.

The return of Felix the Cat was hinted at by an ESRB rating filed in November 2023, typically indicative of an imminent game release. Rocket Knight Adventures, a relatively obscure title compared to a classic like Felix the Cat, also joins the lineup. Limited Run Games has provided fans with comprehensive details about these two classic gaming collections, aptly named Felix the Cat and Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked.

Both of these nostalgic gaming compilations underwent porting using Limited Run’s Carbon Engine, a development tool designed to ensure seamless performance of older games on contemporary platforms. In the Felix the Cat collection, both the NES and Game Boy versions are included. Meanwhile, Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked encompasses the original Rocket Knight Adventures, Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2, and Sparkster. These collections are set to launch on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5. Pre-orders for Rocket Knight Adventures will be open from January 19 to February 18, whereas Felix the Cat’s pre-order window is scheduled from February 9 to March 10.

To enhance their collection, fans have the option to purchase special editions that come with additional perks. The “Classic” edition offers a reversible cover and a special case mirroring the original game’s box art, accompanied by a unique poster and CD soundtrack. In the game Felix the Cat, players control the eponymous character as he embarks on a mission to rescue his girlfriend from the clutches of the Mad Professor, utilizing an array of whimsical weapons. Although the game has two versions, the Game Boy iteration mirrors the NES game closely, differing only in its reduced number of levels.

Rocket Knight Adventures and its sequel were classic side-scrolling platformers initially launched for the Sega Genesis, while the spin-off titled Sparkster made its debut on the SNES. Konami continues its commitment to bringing vintage titles to contemporary platforms, evident not only in releases like these but also through initiatives such as the two-volume Metal Gear Solid Master Collection and remakes of beloved classics like Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3.
