Bandai Namco has unveiled two new gameplay trailers for Tekken 8, featuring the returning characters Panda and Alisa Bosconovitch. Players can expect both Panda and Alisa to be part of the playable roster in Tekken 8 upon its release. As the game’s launch date approaches and the full roster is gradually unveiled, fans are treated to these gameplay reveal trailers, providing insights into how these classic characters have evolved from their previous iterations.

Panda initially appeared in Tekken 3, initially serving as a palette swap for Kuma, another bear fighter in the series. Since her debut, Panda has been a playable character in every subsequent Tekken game, earning her dedicated character slot from Tekken Tag Tournament 2 onwards. On the other hand, Alisa, an android created in the likeness of Dr. Bosconovitch’s late daughter, made her first appearance in Tekken 6. Both characters have strong ties to Tekken regular Ling Xiaoyu, with Panda acting as her bodyguard and Alisa forming a friendship with her in non-canon material such as Project X Zone and Tekken: Blood Vengeance.

These gameplay trailers showcase the distinctive fighting styles of the two characters. As Panda shares a moveset with Tekken’s Kuma, their combat techniques and gameplay approaches are similar, with a notable focus on striking from a distance, thanks to their extended limbs. Despite being a moveset clone of Kuma, Panda adds a unique touch by incorporating some moves from her close associate and ward, Ling Xiaoyu, introducing a personalized flair to her combat repertoire. Notably, Panda and Xiaoyu share an endearing pre-match intro animation, playfully skipping around and engaging in a friendly bet, with the victor earning the privilege to decide on the post-fight snacks.

The latest Tekken 8 trailer shifts its focus to Alisa Bosconovitch, a robotic fighter armed with an array of unconventional weapons. From chainsaws to jetpack wings and even her own detached head, Alisa’s arsenal is nothing short of eclectic. The trailer features her engaging a Jack-8 model, showcasing a plethora of unique moves that seamlessly integrate her weaponry into her combat style. Fans particularly praised her Rage Art finishing move, a blend of humor and power. In this visually striking move, Alisa kicks her own head like a soccer ball towards her opponent, culminating in a dramatic explosion that captivates and entertains fans.

While Alisa received praise as a welcomed and improved return from her Tekken 7 iteration, Panda’s inclusion has stirred more debate, continuing a trend from her previous appearances. The contention arises from Panda sharing moves with Kuma, leading some to view her as occupying a potentially wasted character slot. This sentiment was reinforced when fans discovered a lack of variance in their movesets. Consequently, some argue that the two characters still play quite similarly, despite the addition of a few new moves. Nevertheless, there remains a faction of fans eagerly anticipating the opportunity to play as Tekken 8’s bear fighters and the robotic character, finding excitement in their unique dynamics.
