The streaming service, Pokemon TV, will be discontinued by The Pokemon Company in March, as announced on January 8. The company expressed gratitude to fans for their ongoing support and affection for Pokemon TV. Currently, the reasons behind the shutdown are not clear, and it remains uncertain if there are plans for a similar product in the future.

Having been a staple since 2010, the Pokemon TV website provided fans with a platform to indulge in their favorite Pokemon shows, specials, and movies. The official app, launched in 2013 for Android and iPhone users, expanded its availability to Nintendo Switch in 2021. Offering free access, the streaming service hosted the entire collection of Pokemon animated series and films. In addition to the anime and movies, Pokemon TV featured special content such as card game tutorials, event recordings, and more.

According to The Pokemon Company’s official statement, the application will cease to be downloadable on any supported platforms starting January 8. For users who already have the app installed, it will remain functional until March 28, marking the official sunset of the service. While the company did not disclose the specific reasons for shutting down Pokemon TV, they did offer fans a list of alternative streaming platforms where they can continue enjoying Pokemon content.

When is the Pokemon TV Shutdown?

  • January 8 – Pokemon TV app and website unlisted.
  • March 28 – The official shutdown date Pokemon TV.

The removal of this service could be a frustrating setback for fans. Pokemon TV not only offered free access but also centralized all essential Pokemon content in one convenient location. Now, this content is dispersed across various streaming services like Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Tubi. Fans are now required to navigate multiple platforms, potentially incurring rising subscription fees from services like Netflix. In comparison to the user-friendly experience provided by Pokemon TV, this new arrangement is less than ideal for accessing beloved Pokemon shows and films.

The reasons behind the discontinuation of the streaming service remain unclear, and it’s uncertain if there are plans for a replacement. In past instances, such as the shutdown of Pokemon TCG Online, replacement services were swiftly introduced only days later. With Pokemon Day approaching and the promise of announcements, speculation is rife about a potential reveal of a new streaming service. Whether Pokemon TV has been retired for a rebranding initiative, due to financial considerations, or simply a lack of viewership, its devoted fanbase will undoubtedly feel its absence.
