According to an insider in the gaming industry, internal evaluations at Xbox regarding Ninja Theory’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 are exceptionally favorable. This highly anticipated action-adventure sequel from Ninja Theory is scheduled for release in 2024. The game initially garnered admiration for its visual prowess, and excitement further intensified after the unveiling of a trailer at The Game Awards 2023. Despite the game’s slated release this year, a specific launch window has not yet been confirmed.

The predecessor, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, received acclaim upon its 2017 release. Critics lauded its stunning graphics, captivating narrative, and outstanding voice acting, especially its portrayal of psychosis and its impact on the human psyche. The sequel aims to build on the mechanics of the first game, emphasizing an elevated standard in combat. As the release date approaches, it appears that Microsoft and Xbox are aiming for the sequel to emulate the triumphant success of the original game.

In a segment of DirectXbox, at approximately the 58:00 mark, insider Nate the Hate reveals that Microsoft is conducting internal mock reviews for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. According to reports, these internal reviews are notably positive. Nate the Hate clarifies that he is unsure if the score is solely derived from internal mock reviews or if external reviewers have been involved. However, he mentions that, based on testing, the game is achieving an average Metacritic score in the 90s internally.

Nate the Hate points out that, according to Xbox’s projections, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is poised to achieve the highest Metacritic score for an Xbox exclusive game since Gears of War 3, which currently holds a 91 average on Metacritic. Given Nate the Hate’s reliable track record as a leaker, there’s credibility to what he has shared. However, fans are advised to approach these potential accolades cautiously, avoiding setting overly high expectations that might lead to disappointment upon the game’s official launch. It’s crucial to recognize that internal reviews can differ from real-life critic scores.

For context, the first Hellblade game garnered mostly positive critic reviews, with scores ranging from 80 to 90, some even awarding a perfect score of 100. The overall Metacritic average for Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice hovers around the low 80s, with its Xbox One version securing a Metacritic average of 88. If Nate’s information holds true, Hellblade 2 could signal a robust start for both Microsoft and Ninja Theory in 2024.
