Skyrim: Obtaining and Utilizing Jarrin Root

Skyrim

While Alchemy may not constitute a fundamental aspect of Dragonborn’s weaponry, delving into the effects of Jarrin Root proves worthwhile. Among the most toxic plants in Skyrim, ingesting this root in its raw state can swiftly lead to the demise of even the most robust creatures. However, transforming it into a potent poison elevates its lethality to the point where it can eliminate virtually anyone.

Regrettably, obtaining only a single instance of Jarrin Root makes it impractical to employ it for the mandated task of assassinating the emperor. Nevertheless, there are a few strategies available in Skyrim to acquire additional Jarrin Roots and concoct multiple doses of the lethal poison.

In Skyrim, the exclusive means of acquiring Jarrin Root involves interacting with a character named Astrid during the “To Kill an Empire” quest within the Dark Brotherhood questline. Despite the quest’s premise of employing this lethal plant to assassinate the emperor, there’s no obligation to do so, presenting an opportunity to preserve the unique root for personal use.

Given that Astrid remains the sole source of Jarrin Root, it cannot be cultivated or discovered elsewhere in the game world. Nevertheless, some players resort to console commands to obtain additional Jarrin Roots, though this method is considered unfair. In this unconventional approach, players may engage in a barter system, parting with valuable and hard-to-obtain resources and utilizing console commands to obtain the rare root. While not the optimal method, it is a functional workaround, achievable by entering the command “player.addItem 0001BCBC.”

If you prefer avoiding console commands, there’s a workaround to obtain two roots instead of just one. Take a specific approach by pilfering Astrid and acquiring the precious plant from her before she hands it over during the quest. Subsequently, craft poison from this plant. Only then should you formally accept the quest and receive another root from the girl. If you accept the Jarrin Root without utilizing the first one, the initial copy will vanish from your inventory. Alternatively, if you store it away, the girl will assume you already possess it, and she won’t provide you with another.

Skyrim: How to Use Jarrin Root

As the most elusive poison component in the game, Jarrin Root serves as the key ingredient for concocting 19 distinct poisons, surpassing the potency of Giant’s Toe, the rarest farmable ingredient. However, due to the scarcity of Jarrin Root, it is recommended to exclusively employ it in a specific recipe:

Ingredients:

  1. Jarrin Root
  2. Blisterwort
  3. Human Heart

This particular poison stands alone in the game by exhibiting five simultaneous effects: Damage Health, Damage Magicka, Damage Magicka Regen, Damage Stamina, and Frenzy. Upon reaching Alchemy level 100, you can craft a poison capable of inflicting up to 1000 damage, a potency that can potentially prove fatal to any target. To further enhance your alchemical prowess, it is advised to complete the “A Return To Your Roots” quest and acquire Sinderion’s Serendipity before crafting the poison. This unique ability grants a 25% chance of yielding two portions of poison simultaneously. By incorporating an additional pilfered Jarrin Root, you can amass up to four portions of poison, each capable of dealing 1000 damage, without resorting to console commands.
